Learn To Love Your Diet

Who can get excited about broccoli? Those who love to eat broccoli, that's who. Most of us have formed an opinion about broccoli (or any food) from our earliest childhood memories. Chances are you didn't like it the first time you ate it. You may even have memories of others who made comments about it and helped you form your opinion. The same is true for anything that we eat. If we have an opinion about something, we tend to think it's reality, when in many cases it just isn't so. As humorist Artemus Ward said, "It ain't so much the things we know that get us into trouble, it's the things we know that just ain't so!"

Now, I am not preaching about eating broccoli, but I am trying to get a point across. The way you feel about your diet has a great deal to do with whether or not you will stick with it. If our thoughts continually trigger discontent about a diet, we will usually find an excuse to:

  1. Blame the diet "it doesn't work anyway"

  2. Cheat "just this once"

  3. Blow it "I'll start again Monday"

The truth is there are very few diets that won't work. Diet's don't fail. People do. The only way to change that is to change how you think about your diet or eating plan. Personally, I prefer not to call it a diet, but an eating plan. Too many bad memories about diets, I guess! But, regardless of what you call it, there is good news. Your mind is easier to change than your waist line! The human brain will believe anything you tell it, if you tell it often enough and strongly enough. New programming produces new results.

Start with your attitude. Introduce into your line of thinking the positive aspects of sticking with your diet. A diet complied with means losing weight every single day! Imagine that! Every day you are getting closer to your goal. Take charge of your emotions by tackling those reverberating doubts and cravings with truth. The fact is that you are getting healthier and skinnier every single day by loving what you eat. Think of each item on your menu as fuel to improve your body. Tell yourself you love those items, tell it to yourself often and with emotion! Your love will grow and some day when the times comes... it may be difficult to eat anything else!

Learn to "reward" yourself with something other that food... and it is a life style change -I agree. Not a diet to start and end or it will all be for naught. Marijo
