Control Your Own Destiny

We think that circumstances control our existence, but what if we are controlling our circumstances to some degree. Researchers now believe that much of what happens to us is influenced by what we think. That's right! What you thought about yourself yesterday is one of the main reasons you are having the experiences you have today! Now.. it isn't quite as radical as that.... but isn't it possible that what you hold in your mind can have a great impact on what happens in your life?

For instance, if a great opportunity comes to a man in dire circumstances, who already believes he is incapable of achieving great things in life, is it likely this man will take advantage of the opportunity? No, of course not. He's already decided in his mind that things will not turn out well for him, so he side-steps the very opportunity that could remove him from his circumstances. However, it is very possible that such a man, even if he took advantage of the opportunity would find himself failing, simply because he doesn't believe he is capable of success.

The same is true for the woman who doesn't think she is pretty enough to be attractive to the man of her choice. She will somehow find ways to minimize her attractiveness subconsciously, and will probably appear to have little personality when she is with this man. What we think about ourselves becomes apparent to everyone eventually, except ourselves.

What do we do about this problem we all have? Become aware of your own internal conversation and imagery. We all constantly run mental images through our minds telling us things about ourselves and our situations. Chances are if you really take a good look at your own thoughts and images, you'll find that, like 99.9 % of humans today, most of what you tell yourself and think about is negative and unproductive.

The fact is that a thought about what you DON'T want is just as powerful as a thought about what you DO want. Make a habit of examining your thoughts and the images that transmit through your consciousness. Reverse thoughts that lead down the path of doubt and fear. As you know... a picture is worth a thousand words, so mentally transform images of defeat into images of victory! See yourself as you want to be, not as your old thought patterns have taught you. If that is 20 pounds lighter, then acquire that mental image. If it is wealthier, more successful, or in the relationship of your dreams, then cultivate that image. Plant these seeds, water them with more of the same... and see what a garden you will grow!
